ABOUT US

Who we are

We are a community with a common life in Christ: Faithful devotion to God (2 Pet.1:1-10), joyful friendships grounded in love (John 13:35) and a sincere concern for the lost and least (Micah 6:8).

We envision an intergenerational community where young and old are received for their gifts and contributions. Both respect, care and honour each other with sincere love. We envision children as whole members of the community and adults of all ages and races finding a place of belonging and purpose. We envision all members growing in their love for God, for each other and also for the lost and least. We desire to see a community living for God, secure in His love and walking boldly in their purpose.

Our Story...
"At the end of 2021 I clearly felt the Lord prompt me (Anoeska) to plant a church. When He later asked me to plant "in George" and "sooner than I thought," a friend encouraged me to respond with obedience. We were joined by one other family and had our humble beginning in our house on 26 May 2022 calling ourselves Heather Park Fellowship. As I walked and prayed through the streets of Heather Park the LORD showed me a bare tree. I felt that many of us are like that bare tree, not flourishing as He intended us to. It was there that Psalm 1 became a pillar of vision for us a faith community: To be "like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit in each seasons. Their leaves never wither and they prosper in all they do." (I later read that the meaning of HEATHER is 'evergreen'.) At the end of 2022 we realised it was time to move towards public worship. We prayed for a venue and the word we received was: "look under your noses." That is how we came across the Nedbank Running Club who has graciously opened their doors to us. Planning for public worship we realised we would need a name. Gathering in prayer and over fellowship we desired this church to be 'good news to the poor. Comfort for the brokenhearted, the release of the captive and freedom for the imprisoned,' (Is. 61). One of our leaders recommended ARISE as our church name. A week prior, my daughter had told me that during worship she had seen the whole church turn yellow. Yellow often represents the glory of God. We are thus ARISE for we will "Arise (Heather Park)! Let your light shine for all to see. For the GLORY OF THE LORD rises to shine on you," (Is. 60 ). So this we desire to see: That God's children will ARISE."

"Oh, the joys of those who delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do."

Psalm 1:1-3

"Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you."

Isaiah 60
